Your Essential Tool Kit To Create Stained Glass

Stained Glass Shopping List
Starting up the hobby of stained glass can be fun and most of all addictive. To be successful it is advised that you enroll on a stained glass training course and you will need the equipment to get you started. Below we have put together a shopping list that can be used for both lead came and copper foil crafts.
Tools and supplies
The following tools are required for both copper foil and lead came stained glass:
  • Basic equipment needed are white pattern paper, pencil, permanent markers and a metal ruler.

  • You will need both grozing and breaking pliers, however you there are combination pliers available on the market to save you a little bit of money. Combo are used to break glass and fine tune glass shards that are unwanted.

  • To clean surfaces that you wish to solder, you will need a chemical called flux, this is very important as you can not solder without using flux to clean. Basic disposable brushes can be purchased to use on foil and lead surfaces.
It is always advised to buy up to 50% more glass that is needed for your project.
  • A glass grinder is a very useful power tool used to grind any glass edges that are unwanted so that your pieces fit perfectly together.

  • 100-watt soldering iron gives enough heat for all your stained glass soldering projects.

  • Every creation of a stained glass project, even the simplest design, begin as a paper drawn design. Hundreds of patterns are now available from specialists shops or online.

  • When working with glass it is important to wear safety glasses, they should be worn whenever you are working on your project or in your studio.

  • Select a pistol-grip cutter that can be self oiled, make sure that you choose one that is easy hold within the palm of your hand or if you choose a barrel cutter that fits in between your fingers like a pencil.
Specialist copper foil tools
When you commence your first project using the copper foil technique, make sure you purchase the following tools and supplies:
  • Copper foil that is 7/32 inch is used to wrap each piece of glass in your project, you use thin strips of copper foil with adhesive backing. Slimmer foil is more difficult to handle than 7/32 inch.

  • The little foil tape tool allows you to burnish, crimp, and allow you to roll copper foil tape tightly to each piece of glass.

  • You will need to purchase solder that is 60% tin and 40% lead this is used to hold your foiled glass pieces tightly together.
Lead came tools
The following tools are needed in addition to your general tools in order to start creating lead came projects:
  • Your solder needs to have an equal amount of tin and lead; 50/50.

  • During the construction process you will need to use horseshoe nails in order to secure glass and lead came pieces.

  • Obviously you will need lead came strips that are available in H or U profile shapes.

  • A lead knife or lead nipper is used to trim the lead for accurate sizing.

  • A temperature controller that is called a rheostat, this helps to control and reduce the heat of your soldering iron. You will not need this tool if your iron has an in-built controller.

Leaded Glass Repair

Whole Year Round by swanksalot

How To Repair A Leaded Glass Panel

We recently repaired and replaced a leaded glass panel. This was a repair to a leaded window and we traditionally use the copper foil method developed by Tiffany studios in the early 1900's. So we were mixing two styles of glass construction. The results were perfect.
1. A client called and asked us to repair a window in their home. The window had a broken piece of glass and we would need to take it from their home, repair it at our shop and reinstall it in their entryway.
2. The window frame had been assembled with 45 degree miters in the wood, which required that the nails be removed in order to get the wood out. Fortunately, the nails used were very thin pin nails, similar to a staple in size, so I was able to break the fasteners with a sharp rap on a putty knife at each nail.
3. Once all the pin nails were cut, I was able to carefully remove the wood from the frame work.
4. The leaded panel was very tight in the framework, which is rare, and I had to gently work the panel loose so as not to break it. This installation had one piece of tempered glass on the outside of the door frame and then the art glass. In our studio we insulate window units so that there is tempered glass on each side of the art glass.
5. Because the tempered glass was still in place, I simply replaced the wood pieces back in the frame till the reinstall took place. Normally we put a piece of cardboard or plastic in the opening while it awaits replacement.
6. When I got the panel back to our studio, I first traced the outline of the panel. I knew that since this window was so tight, I had to be absolutely sure that it didn't grow on me in the repair process.
7. I heated the joints of solder and, using pliers, rocked the outer bar back and forth until the outside strip of zinc came loose from the panel.
8. Using a razor blade knife, I loosened the cement joint between the lead and the glass so that I could remove the glass pieces.
9. Once the cement was loose from the glass, I was able to de-solder the joints and work the lead free from the glass.
10. Next, I applied clear tape to both of the broken sides of the glass so that as I eased it out of the panel, it would stay in one piece which I could use as a pattern for the new replacement glass.
11. Once I had the cement and glass loose from each other, I applied gentle pressure on the glass and spread it apart so it was easy to remove from the panel.
12. I used the removed piece of glass as a template to cut my replacement pieces. Since the glass was a close match, but not quite perfect, I replaced both of the pieces so that they both looked the same. Your eye would notice the difference if only one of the pieces was replaced, but couldn't see the small difference since both were replaced.
13. Next, I nailed down the panel on the pattern I traced earlier, so I could make sure the window stayed the right size.
14. Then I slid both of the replacement pieces of glass into the lead came.
15. I tapped them into place tightly using gentle pressure from a glass hammer.
16. Then I nailed the outside lead, in place making sure that the glass was tight and inside the lines of the pattern.
17. Up until this step, the techniques I used are those that both a copper foil artist and a lead artist would use. From this point on, I focused on copper foil methods. I placed a strip of copper foil along the bottom of the panel, so there would be something to solder to. We might have used lead came but the came we had in stock didn't match the original lead.
18. I foiled the bottom three beveled pieces with copper foil, getting ready for soldering the panel.
19. I cut a piece of zinc to fit the panel and nailed it in place, making sure that the panel still fit inside the penciled in pattern.
20. I carefully soldered the joints at the bottom of the panel, using care to only heat the lead that was being attached just enough to solder to, trying to avoid melting the came.
21. When the solder lines were complete, they were a little too shiny to match the original window, so I cleaned it with an ammonia based cleaner which darkened it and then added a dilute black patina to knock the color down.
22. After polishing and waxing the window, it matched the original pretty well.
23. When we went back to the home for the install, my wife, Jeanne wiped the window down for a final cleaning to get rid of any dust and smudges.
24. I removed the molding that was in temporarily and a couple of nails from the frame work. Then I followed Jeanne's example and polished the inside of the tempered glass to get rid of any dust that might have collected.
25. I used my putty knife as a lever to center the window in the opening.
26. Then I applied a small bead of silicone caulk around the entire framework.
27. I gently tapped the wood back in place.
28. Then, since I wasn't going to nail the trim back in place, I forced a stick in the opening between the molding so that they'd be held tightly while the silicon dried. The silicon will form a good enough bond to hold both the window and the molding in place.
Just a few simple steps later, we had the job done with very satisfactory results.

Antique Stained Glass and Its Uses in Today's Vintage Home

Vintage homes require appropriate decorations in order to maintain historical accuracy as well as enhance the beauty of the structure. Many types of period homes can be embellished with the artful use of antique stain glass. These stunning pieces can be used as windows, skylights and panels throughout the vintage home.
Leaded glass and antique stain glass are traditionally used as windows in the home. Sometimes there are windows in vintage homes that have ornate woodwork detailing, and using curtains indoors can create a too-modern feel to the historic details surrounding the windows. In this instance, homeowners sometimes choose to add an antique leaded stained glass window to the area. In this way, the view is obscured for privacy, yet the light is allowed into the room, and the brilliant colors of the glass shine in all their glory. These antique stain glass pieces may encompass the full window or perhaps only the top portion of a clear window, but they add a unique and colorful accent to an already attractive exposure.
Another excellent application of antique stained glass in the period home is through the use of skylights. By using leaded glass in a skylight, the natural light can easily shine through the artwork, setting it off to full advantage. Skylights made of antique stain glass can also be used as accents on the home. Round or oval-shaped antique leaded stained glass skylights help to break up the many straight lines in the facade of the vintage home, offering additional interest and a focal point.
Antique stained glass is also used as panels in historic homes. Antique stained glass panels can be used in a variety of different ways to draw attention to certain key areas of the home. The entry door is one place where antique stained glass panels can be put to good use. Panels can run along either side of the door, or along the top of the door. They may also be inserted into the door for added appeal. Many homes have a front entry that is connected to a hallway leading to the central portion of the home, and these hallways are often dark and difficult to light with natural light. This is why many homeowners choose doors with glass inserts, in order to bring more light to the entry area. Panels can also be used in interior areas that are well-lit as well.
Antique stain glass merchants can offer you a broad selection of beautiful pieces that will bring a unique look to your historic vintage home.

About Glass Etching Machines

Glass etching is a definitive method of creating artistic images on a glass. This can be done with the application of abrasive, acids and caustic substances. The process employed in the etching is similar to abrading a glass in order to produce a design. This way it can produce a design that is frosted like. At times, the etched design can somehow look like an airbrushed design that is done in a delicate manner. It may look subtle but the design is permanently carved on the surface of the glass. This is the beauty of a design etched in a glass. Aside from the aesthetic look that it gives, glass carvings also posed various uses that are especially designed.
There are several ways that glass etching can be done. Some traditional forms of glass etching utilize caustic and abrasive acids. Utilizing acids also give out valuable result especially when it is done with the use of a potent acid strength. The image is artistically well engraved in the surface of the glass. Most of the time, hydrofluoric acid is the acid used in the etching of a glass surface. This is so strong that gives out permanent design that are hard to fade and cease off. Unfortunately, there are some disadvantages that acids can give to the person who does the engraving. Because of the acid strength of the substance, it is dangerously harmful especially when it gets in contact with the skin. Another thing is the fume that is emitted by the acids once it touches the surface of the glass.
Another way of etching designs to the glass is the use of sand blasting. This is accomplished by blasting the design with sand blown utilizing a high powdered jet of air or water. This method usually results to a design that is somehow coarse to see if not properly executed. This needs to be done in an accurate manner to give out explicit and artistic look of design as it is etched in the glass. One of the common problems brought by sand blasting is the peril that it gives to the person. The process usually gives out very fine sand that is dangerous when inhaled.
Because of the possible problems brought by the traditional methods of glass etching, innovation has paved its way to produce a machine that is safe and efficient aside from the convenience that it gives. The introduction of a glass etching machine came to surface to make it easier for everybody to do the glass etching. This technological advancement in the method of engraving or etching is something that everybody can do. This is safe, efficient and convenient for everyone.
A glass etching machine is usually controlled with the use of a computer unit. The design is usually programmed in the computer that allows the user to alter or edit the design depending on his discretion. The very important feature that a glass etching machine can provide is the fact that it is not manually done by the person. It is the computer that does the task of engraving designs to the surface of the glass.

Glass Blowing Dale Chihuly

Dale Chihuly - The American Maverick of Glass Art

Dale Chihuly, an outstanding American glass sculptor, was born in Tacoma, Washington, U.S., on September 20, 1941. Graduating from the high school in his hometown, he enrolled for the College (now University) of the Puget Sound in 1959. In 1960, he shifted to the University of Washington, Seattle and studied there, 'interior designing,' 'architecture,' and 'glassblowing.' He did his masters in 1967, in 'interior designing' and 'glass blowing,' from the prestigious University of Wisconsin-Madison, Seattle. It was here that he developed an interest in 'glassblowing' and mastered it under Harvey Littleton. In 1968, Dale did his Masters in Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design. Later in the same year, the artist got his Fulbright Fellowship and got an esteemed opportunity to work with Venini Fabrica, Murano. In 1971, Chihuly founded the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington.
Dale Chihuly's works excelled on coupling the play of natural light with the properties of transparency and translucency in glass. His relatively quicker recognition and fame stems from the timing of his start, a time when veneration for 'Glass Art' was quite dominant. Autobiographical in nature, Dale's works had 'abstract' flower forms and the depictions of aquatic life. All this was inspired by his mother's garden and his acquaintance with seaside from childhood in Tacoma.
In a car mishap in 1976, Dale Chihuly lost the vision of his left eye, due to which, his ability for deeper perception, required to handle molten glass, was affected. Consequently, he had to renounce the chief glassblower (gaffer) position and hand it over to William Morris. His association with Morris led to the creation of big scale, multihued glass works, recognized as "Macchia" series. Bold and bright lip wraps characterize the series. The alliance of Chihuly and Morris bloomed in the early 1980s with extensive works on the "Sea Form" series, which are rolling shell-like forms within glass works. Later on, the duo developed the "Soft Cylinder" and the highly flamboyant "Venetian" series, with the backing of Italian glassblower, Lino Tagliapietra.
Influenced by the grand glassblowing techniques of the great master Murano, Dale Chihuly tried many new techniques and approaches for the same. Sculpturing with a group of master glassblowers and assistants helped him create designer 'Glass Art' of a quantity and quality, unthinkable by his single hand. A subject of focus in many books and significant essays, Dale Chihuly's glass sculptures are globally exhibited in major museums, such as the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Louvre, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Whitney. His exclusive "Glass Chandelier Collections" are also put to display at Holsten Galleries.
By 1990s, Dale Chihuly diverted his interest to large-scale architectural 'glass Art Installations.' In 1991, Chihuly did "Niijima Floats Series" at the Niijima International Glass Art Festival, Japan. He gained global approbation in 1996 for his 3-dimensional work of "Glass Chandeliers." He contributed an array of impressive 'Installation Art' exhibitions, including "Chihuly Over Venice (1995-96)," "Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem," "2000 at the Tower of David Museum of the History, Jerusalem (2000)," "Chihuly in the Park: A Garden of Glass at Chicago's Garfield Park Conservatory (2001-02)," "the Chihuly Bridge of Glass in Tacoma (2002)," and "Mille Fiori at the Tacoma Art Museum (2003)."
Dale Chihuly has regularly exhibited his works at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, near London, and at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables. The most recent exhibition was at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in May 2007. A widespread and constant charisma in the art world, Dale Chihuly and his work has triggered substantial controversies and debates in the genre of 'Glass Art.'

The cone shaped pendant lightings are more directional lighting source that allows only a little amount light to escape.
Quality levels:
Colored glass pendant lightings are available in diverse quality levels. Some of them being real piece of art cost thousands of dollars while others have little esthetic appeal and are used more for practical purposes. Thereby the quality range of the light produced from these glass pendant lightings also varies.

How Glass Panels Can Help to Sell a Company Service

There is a mistaken idea that glass makes for boring office partitions. The fact is that glass has a versatility that other materials cannot match. Whilst the solid partition is extremely effective in creating new spaces in an office, segregating one area from another, glass panels are by no means ineffective in accomplishing this too, plus more.
There are many practical advantages of using demountable room partitions instead of simply building a new permanent wall. Not only does it allow the layout of an office floor to change numerous times, it also means that rooms halved for practical reasons can eventually be restored to their full size.
There are also marketing advantages to these walls, which can benefit a company in terms of both sales and branding. In fact, by using a glass dividing wall, the impact can be far greater if a little bit of invention and creativity is applied.
The scope of possibility is wide and varied, but we have put together a list of three ways in which the use of glass can help to promote a company and its services or products.
Branding Opportunities
Glass is no longer just an option when an office does not want to hinder the distribution of natural light. It is certainly one advantage, but when it comes to promoting the company name, panels made of glass are highly effective.
This is due to the availability of glass film, which can be stuck to the surfaces of the glass. These are available in a range of preset designs, such as grids, circles, and series of horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines, usually on a frosted background.
But they can also be especially designed to match the logo of the company and the company title. And, of course, more expensive panels are available on the market, with etched glass providing a rugged yet decorative effect on the glass in whatever design that is desired.
Reflects Company Attitude
The style of the glass film can be all important to the image of the company, but it can also be used effectively to promote a sense of what the company is about. So, rather than using the company logo there can be images that provide hints of the company attitude and values. The best example is perhaps fast food restaurants, where images of happy families enjoying meals together are strongly visible throughout the restaurant.
So, a company that sells toys may have silhouettes of easily recognisable toys, like spinning tops or building blocks. A kindergarten might have the alphabet and numbers. And a recording studio might have musical notes and scales decorating the panels. And, because the film is also available coloured, it means that extremely detailed scenes can be depicted.
This can promote the company and its services or products in an indirect way. It is a little like being surrounded by a catalogue without pushing sales, and tells a visitor something about the company and what it does in a quietly confident way.
Escape the Office Environment
Of course, these walls are also highly effective in simply creating a space in which occupants can escape the environments they are used to.
For example, in order to combat a possible sense of claustrophobia, some offices might decorate the glass panels in a meeting room with a depiction of bamboo woods or mountain scenes.
Such a backdrop can have a very positive impact on visiting clients, who might be attending a meeting in the room. It can also serve to lighten the atmosphere in a meeting, allowing those involved to feel more at ease.
However, the most important effect of the partition wall is what these clients are left with and the feelings they then associate with the company. Even if new business is not being negotiated, the new and refreshing surrounds can enhance the positive image of a company that clients might already perceive.
In this respect, the use of glass room partitions, and the array of decorative possibilities, can help to sell the company, services and products that it provides.
Sarah Shore writes about many types of room partitions for Applied Workplace, one of the leading suppliers of office partitions in the UK. From the demountable partition wall to their modern Quartzline glass panels, Applied Workplace offer a wide range of high quality products.

Toyo Glass Cutter

Stained Glass Scoring and Breaking - An Art in Itself

Scoring and breaking stained glass is an art that you are able to achieve but not without some practice. All it takes is somewhat patience and you will soon be in a position to cut and break stained glass like a pro! The first thing to do when cutting glass is to relax when you are handling stained glass. It will make the task go more smoothly.
Having the specific stained glass cutter is important. Various companies manufacture various types of glass cutters. They have cutting wheels of either carbide or steel. The wheel size and honing angles vary for the purpose in specific types of glass cutting.
If you would like the correct cutter for stained glass, it is best to go to a glass supplier. Cutters in hardware stores are by and large made specifically for cutting clear glass.
Carbide wheels be even more but last longer than steel wheels. They'll eventually get dull or even nicked and have to be replaced; but, you can exchange the wheel only and not have to get a whole new cutter.
Stained glass cutters must be lubricated to hold the wheels rolling freely. Most stained glass cutters, like Toyo or Fletcher pistol grip and pencil grip cutters, have a reservoir for oil which runs down a wick to the cutting wheel.
Stained glass cutters incorporate different addresses which make the choice one of preference and fit. Once you have picked out your favorite cutters, it is better not to let others use your cutter. They'll put pressure on it differently than you which changes the balance.
Pencil grip glass cutters have a ball on one end which is accustomed to tap the stained glass underneath the score line to begin a running break so that the glass can be pulled apart. Stained glass that has been scored can be pulled apart by hand; but often times, the glass pieces are too small to grip. Glass pliers can be familiar with separate the pieces that are too small to grasp.
Special "running" pliers are made for breaking straight furrows. Some glass pliers have smooth gripping surfaces. Others have teeth for scraping off rough edges or shards of glass. Gripping one side of the glass firmly with your thumb along one side of the score gives the glass some stability. The breakers are utilized on the opposite side, pointing toward the score. You use a quick pulling away and down motion.
If your score is long, it is best to "rock" your pliers at one end to commence a running break; then do the same at the opposite end of the score, then pull the glass apart.
A good score is drained one continuous motion. Starts and ends will only cause a bad score line which will wind up in an awful break. Going over a score line twice dulls your glass cutter and makes a bad score line.
Put up with up when scoring glass so that you can put on even pressure using the weight of your arm and leave your wrist free to follow curves. A metal ruler can be employed to assist in cutting straight furrows.
Be sure to grasp the glass cutter straight up and down. If your cutter is leaning to one side, it outcomes in a beveled cut, causing the stained glass pieces to fit poorly. Make sure you glass is clean before you cut it so that nothing interferes with a smooth score. Cut on the smooth side of the glass.

Well folks, Spring has sprung and with the impending Tax Refund check coming, now is the time to spruce things up in your home or apartment. Are you ready for a change in your home decor, but don't have the time to make big changes like painting the walls? Is replacing all the furniture or the flooring too expensive? Then this article is for you! Ever wonder why home accents are called "accents?" Because they are the "little things" that make your space your home by putting a splash of color or a dash of art here or there around that space.
Are you a pack rat or do you like clean lines and open spaces? Does having all your favorite things around you make you feel cozy and comfortable? What if you have a small space or you rent an apartment or home and can't make those BIG changes? Then make the little ones! Let the four walls and the floor be your canvas and be creative with the décor accents. Remember, with home décor accents, if you don't like the look, or if you get tired of it, they are easily replaced, and much easier than replacing the big pieces of furniture or the wall to wall carpet.
Let's get started. It's easy. First, what's your favorite décor "theme?" Don't have one yet? Well let's think about that. Do you like boats, lighthouses, sea shells, the beach? Then a Nautical theme is for you. Are you a horse lover? Do you like Cowboys and rodeos? Then the Western theme is for you. Is your favorite animal the deer, moose, elk, or loons and ducks. Sounds like you're a rustic lodge kind of person. Or do you like big bright sunflowers, roosters, and grapevines? Then you are wide open with choices with the Country theme. Country can be French, Tuscan, Shabby Chic, or good ole down home, front porch country - like Texas. In short, your "theme" can be anything you want it to be.
Assuming that making a whole house furniture purchase is out of the question, what type of furniture do you have - antiques, modern, art deco, leather, bargain basement specials? It really doesn't matter because you can combine any or all of these into your "theme" décor by matching or off-setting the colors of décor accents with the colors present in your furniture. How about the Southwestern look with all the mystery of the Native American Indians? Or are you more into the Asian Oriental theme and want your home to reflect the simplification of the Tibetan monks with room for meditation? Whatever it is, just pick your favorite "thing" and then build on that. Don't worry about getting new furniture, you can easily use your eclectic furniture, be it handed down to you from Grandma or Aunt Betty, or other family members, by putting a decorative throw blanket over it to make it blend in with the theme of your room's décor, or cover the couch, chairs, and/or bed with decorative throw pillows in your favorite décor theme.
Now to build Your Space. Let's start with an example. Let's say you like Western and Southwest things, but you have antique furniture. Nothing says you can't mix them together in a room. Or you can make each room in your home or apartment a different theme, such as Country in the kitchen with Roosters and sunflowers, Oriental Asian in the bathroom complete with a Tibetan singing bowl, and maybe a Nautical or Rustic Country theme in the den. With the living room you can have cowboys and western décor on one side of the room and Native American and/or Southwest décor on the other, or mix them up in the same room since cowboys and Indians tend to mesh together easily. You can then add bits of antiques, like that big chair from your great uncle or that tiffany lamp from your grandmother and blend them into an eclectic look.
Dress up your windows without changing the curtains by hanging a large framed stained art glass panel that matches your décor theme. Stained glass art panels are less expensive than traditional stained glass windows, yet look as lovely and create the same amount of privacy. Hand painted, hand carved, or wrought iron bookends in your favorite theme can tie the room's decor together, as well as your favorite books.
Lamps and lampshades come in "themes" too. Try a natural leather or soft pigskin lampshade to help set the mood for the rustic, lodge, country, western, or southwestern "look." Get one that matches the color theme of your room. Try changing out the lamps you have too. Hand made wrought iron, ducks sculptures, kachina dolls, romantic marble, or Native American pottery lamps will do the trick. For a more restrictive budget, adding a lamp finiale will give whatever lamp you are using the décor theme touch to bring it into focus. Do you have a bookcase or shelf to use as a focal point? Add a genuine Navajo Kachina Doll or a genuine Giuseppe Armani sculpture or a less expensive figurine. Hand crafted crystal vases or Native American made pottery also look good in those spaces. And don't forget flowers can be added as a door wreath or a flower basket made to match your theme.
Forget painting the walls and instead hang up a few hanging wall tapestries depicting a beautiful scene to match your favorite theme. Many are woven to look like a window with a view. Get one that you want to look through. You could also hang up some other form of wall décor to focus your attention away from the paint. How about a throw rug or a set of coasters to offset the table? Want to set a table that will get ooooos and ahhhhs? Try using a custom make dinnerware set or some hand cut lead cased Bohemian crystal wine glasses in pretty colors? Granted, they may be a little expensive due to the increase in the value of the Euro currency, but they will easily become a family heirloom. Did you know that following WWI and WWII, may servicemen brought back these same fine crystal wine glasses in the old world Grape Cut pattern back from Europe and it's still in use today?
Final thought - Just follow your heart and the list you made of all the little things you want and it will turn out just fine.

Stained glass keeps the place cool by protecting from excessive sunlight. It stops 99% of the ultraviolet raises and reflects it back and let the pure and harmless lights to flow all over spreading the radiance of it in the whole area. It comes with some beautiful designs which help to enhance the splendor of any place.
There are many different forms of architectural stained glasses. You can use it as a window, as a door, as a partition or can place it just as a decorative piece or can use it as a table or can place it in the drawing room or can make a dining table out of it. Be it whatever, you will make that thing will always look beautiful and add beauty to the place and give it a complete different style.
There are many techniques by which they can be made. For example, in some classic form of a window, one can add colored glasses and cut the window in some drawing and can be combined with some lead or copper or brass kind of profile in the middle of each other. In the window which is made up of the stained glass the plot is kept secondary. The primary thing is the material i.e. the glass which is used. The glass should be chosen in such a way that they can reflect beautiful colors. Dark colors will take away the beauty of the stained glass and also the patterns will not come out and reflect clearly.
There are some kinds of stained glasses which will give you an evergreen look and will look beautiful all the time. Some kinds of glasses are very eye catching. They catch eyes easily because of its beautiful patterns and the wonderful colors.

Sand Carving Glass

Sandcarving: Information Basics for Stone or Glass

Sandcarving is the art of blasting abrasive media such as sand at high pressures so that it digs into material to shape an image.
The abrasive media is propelled at very high speeds by a sandblaster which uses a pressurized air from a air compressor to power it. There are quite a few sandblaster categories but the pressure pot sandblaster is required to sandcarve because it has a much higher blasting pressure. The high blasting pressure is needed to carve the objects deep enough in a timely manner.
In order to successfully create an identifiable sandcarving, you typically need to blast over the object with a stencil which displays the image you want marked. To do this you will usually need a thick rubber or vinyl sheet called a resist which has a sticky backside to it. The adhesive on the sticky backside will help hold the stencil to the object your sandcarving so abrasive doesn't get under the stencil. It basically seals up the areas that you don't want the sandblaster to hit.
Making Sandcarving Stencils
Making the stencil can be tedious but it isn't very hard unless the pattern is complex. All you would have to do is outline the pattern onto the resist sheet and cut along the edges. Then peel off the areas that you want to carve into the object. There are many other easier methods but I will talk about them another time.
There are various sizes of sandcarving resists used for creating the stencil and the depthness depends on how deep you're looking to carve or how long. In the United States vinyl sheets or sandcarving rubber is measured in "mils" which is equivalent to.001 inch. For most applications, a thickness of 10 to 30 mils will be sufficient.
Typical Objects Used
Now lets discuss the typically objects that most people sandcarve into. There are many applications to the sandcarving field. One well known industry which uses sandcarving is in the cemetery headstone business.
So different types of stone or rock are one of the popular objects used sandcarving but there are many others too. The other popular object used is glass.

How to Buy Authentic Murano Glass Jewelry Wholesale

On a small island of Murano near Venice in Italy, glass artisans have been making beautiful glass objects for more than a thousand years. For centuries, these superb art pieces were so expensive that only the rich and powerful people could own them.

But, thanks to the modern technology, exquisite hand-crafted Murano glass is now affordable for everyone, all over the world. The wholesale Murano glass jewelry distributors are making Murano jewelry and art objects available in almost all corners of the world, introducing to average people the true beauty of glass jewelry and art, made, just like thousand years ago, by skilled hands of trained and experienced Murano artisans.

Since it is made possible to build the glass-making furnaces small enough for an average artist’s studio, glass making has become a popular way for artists to express themselves. It also made it possible to make glass objects faster, significantly lowering the price. There are now thousands of artists producing and selling lovely glass jewelry and art objects.

But, the techniques for glass making are still almost the same as when Murano artisans invented them through the last ten centuries. Many modern glass artists spend some time in Murano where they work in ancient glass making factories, learning the techniques for making art out of sand and dreams out of the flames of furnaces. Murano Island is again the world center of beautiful glass jewelry and art objects.

Technology also made it possible to make glass jewelry and objects using machines, fast and cheap, for the mass market. To boost the price of such objects, many unscrupulous retailers call their glass products ‘Murano glass.”

Murano glass is popular collector's and gift item because of its superb craftsmanship, exquisite colors and the sense of history Murano glass brings from Murano, where it has been produced for more than thousand years. Unfortunately, the popularity of Murano glass is also encouraging a thriving trade of fake Murano glass, copies made by machines that are far cry from the real Murano glass in originality and quality of craftsmanship.

Some people are attracted by the low price of fake Murano glass objects, and do not bother to find out if they are real or fake. But, if you wish to own real piece of Murano glass, for your collection or as a special gift, the best way to make sure it is a true Murano, short of traveling to Italy, is to buy it through reliable Murano glass retailers, who sell Murano glass jewelry wholesale.

A number of respected and reputable distributors and retailers of Murano glass have a well-established relationship with various Murano glass factories. They work with Murano artists directly, in a symbiotic relationship, beneficial for everyone: the artists’ work reaches the glass lovers all over the world, the retailers have steady supply of high quality authentic murano glass jewelry wholesale, and the customers get the most beautiful glass art in the world.

The wholesale Murano glass jewelry distributors manage to keep the price of original Murano glass sufficiently affordable for average consumers, but if you find a piece of “Murano” glass jewelry that is really cheap, you can be sure that it is mass-produced. It is simply not possible to make a piece of glass art by hand and sell it for next to nothing.

Some Murano glass manufacturers emboss their factory seal, which is the best sign of authenticity. But, it is not possible to mark in such a way small pieces of Murano glass, such as necklaces or pendants. For that, you depend on the reputation of a wholesale Murano glass jewelry distributor.
