Properly Installing a Glass Film onto Your Window

How do you attach a glass film onto your window? One of the most beautiful ways to add appeal to your glass surfaces is through the use of a
glass film
. It works great for rooms that need privacy without sacrificing natural lighting. Aside from this, glass film also helps improve the safety and security of your home. It strengthens and helps hold broken glass in place and lessen the possibility of it shattering. It is also effortless to install on glass windows or walls and can likewise be removed easily. It is inexpensive as well, and it does not require special tools to attach.

For the installation of glass film, you need a spray bottle; ruler; utility knife, blade, or cutter; paper towel; tape measure; wetting solution composed of water and mild dish detergent; and squeegee to remove or control the flow of liquid on a flat surface.

The first thing that you need to do is to inspect and rewind the film. It is advisable to rewind it in the reverse at the initial step. It should be kept that way for a day or two before using the film. The second step is to make a wetting solution. To prepare this wetting solution, you need to mix three to four drops of clear, odorless, mild dish detergent into a half quart of clean water. Put in a spray bottle afterwards.

Meanwhile, you may now spray the window with the wetting solution that you have made. It is important to thoroughly clean the window of all dust or grease before applying the film. You may then use the squeegee to make the window or the glass wall clean and dry. The fourth step is to cut the film. Then, the utility knife, blade, or cutter should be placed against a ruler in order to cut the film evenly on the table. To make things easier, homeowners are advised to cut the film approximately half inch wider than the window pane and simply trim the film to its exact size afterwards.

Next is to spray the window again, but this time evenly, with the wetting solution. After this, you may now carefully separate the film from its clear polyester backing. Because the film is very thin, you may have a hard time separating the film from its transparent backing. To make things less difficult, you may place a piece of tape on the corner and gently peel it back.

After doing all these steps, you are now ready to attach the film on your glass window. You need to spray the adhesive side of the film evenly with wetting solution. Aside from this, you should also be more extra careful here and try not to put lines or crease the film. Start by placing the
glass film
1/8 inch inside the window and adjust afterwards to make it perfectly fit the window’s shape. You may use again the wetting solution and the squeegee to remove all bubbles and smoothen out the finished output.
