Restoration / Repair Work
First of all we need to assess the damage to the panel(s) in question. For example, if there are a couple of broken pieces but the window itself is in overall good condition then we can sometimes carry out repairs on-site.
However, if there is more extensive damage to i.e. the lead or solder joints have deteriorated or the panel is loose then we have to restore the panel back at the workshop.
We try to save as much of the original glass as is possible and only replace broken pieces. We then re-build the panel using new lead and re-cement to make the panel strong again. Sometimes we add strengthening bars to giver added durability if. For example, the panel is in a front door which is constantly being slammed.
It is quite a satisfying job to restore a stained glass window back to its former glory.
